Why We Exist
HOPE in action.
Lapeer County has felt the economic hardship our country has faced. To this date our community has one of the highest unemployment rates in our state at 17.1%, ranking us at #19 out of 83 counties. The families in our community have felt this economic stress.
The Greg Prendergast Memorial Foundation has realized this problem and exists to step into the academic needs of our community, especially in these hard times. Specifically we are working to make strides and affect change in local family’s lives through acknowledging what needs are present and stepping in monetarily for low income families in Lapeer County.
Along with that, scholarships will be awarded annually to Armada graduates who apply for the Greg Prendergast Memorial Scholarship. Greg was an extremely accomplished teacher who was respected and loved by everyone who knew him. Greg taught for 20 years at Armada Middle School. He taught mostly math (favoring algebra & geometry) but also science, stock club, life skills and economics to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This foundation is honored to be able to continue Greg Prendergast’s legacy by supporting his students to pursue their academic careers. Everyone who knew Greg knew him as someone who could be counted on. Both his friends and his students knew he was someone who would spend as much time as needed talking though any life decisions, from big to small. He was a man who knew his priorities; trust God for answers, never give up hope, love your family, make time for your friends, and teach with purpose seeing the best in every student. The members of the Greg Prendergast Memorial Foundation are dedicated to preserving the legacy of Greg Prendergast. There are many needs in our community and we hope our foundation will address them one by one.
